Betany (Dahlberg)
Coffland
Mezzo-Soprano, Betany Coffland received a MM degree from The Juilliard School in 2005 and a Bachelor of Music in vocal performance from New England Conservatory of Music in 2001. She has lived a year in Italy, studying the language for her profession while performing throughout the Umbrian and Tuscan regions. In 2003 she received the Bori Grant for foreign music study in the Czech language where she studied in Prague and has received scholarships from The Juilliard School, the Aspen Music Festival, and New England Conservatory of Music. Ms. Coffland recently won the Grand Prize at the Margaret Kimball Competition with Rimrock Opera, and in the spring of 2007, she also won first place in the Treasure Valley Concerto Competition. Her operatic roles include Zita in Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, L'Enfant in Ravel's L'Enfant et les sortilegès, and Miles in Britten's The Turn of The Screw. Ms. Coffland made her professional debut in March of 2008 with Opera Idaho in the role of Giannetta from Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore. She has been a member of Opera Idaho's Resident Company for the past two years and she is also a member of the Idaho CoOPERAtive. Beginning this summer, she will be the newest resident Mezzo-Soprano at Opera San Jose in California. (MFAA Alumn, 1996)
Eric
Schultz
A Phoenix native, Eric Schultz is an extremely active composer and performer of contemporary and experimental music. His compositions have been performed throughout the United States and in Europe. Mr. Schultz's musical aesthetic tends toward the abstract, as he seeks to free his music from the dictatorship of directed meaning. He is a founding member of the Phoenix-based contemporary music ensemble Crossing 32nd Street, recently honored as "Best New Classical Music Group" by the Arizona Republic for its aggressive commitment to performing contemporary music at the highest level. Mr. Schultz has held teaching positions at Arizona State University West, Phoenix College, Paradise Valley Community College and Glendale Community College, where he has taught music composition, theory, orchestration, electronic music, and selected topics in music history. Additionally, Mr. Schultz has been a featured pre-concert lecturer at the renowned La Jolla SummerFest classical music.
